Step 1. Launch the Software
Install the software on a Windows PC, then go to Start Menu, All Programs and CDR Recovery. Your system file directory shows in the first window.
Step 2. Select the Folder With CDR Files
Browse the left panel and select the folder that holds your CorelDRAW files. CDR files of that folder appear in the right panel.
Step 3. Preview a CDR File
Select a CDR file to preview it. Minimize or maximize the preview image to check the drawing before you export.
Step 4. Choose Export
Select one file, right click and choose Export. Or select the file and click the Export icon.
Step 5. Select the Destination and Export
Export opens a dialog box. Click Browse to choose the save location, navigate to the folder (Make New Folder is available) and click OK. Destination path shows in the dialog, so click Export. After the export a notification appears. Click OK, then Close to end.
Step 6. Open the Recovered File and Status Report
Open the destination folder to see your recovered drawing and the Status Report. Open the Status Report in MS Excel to read the status of that file.

Five Checks Before You Blame the CDR File
- Look for a backup_of file in the folder of the drawing. Corel creates it when Make backup on save is on.
- Check the temp folder for an auto_backup_of file, the default auto backup location.
- After a system error, restart CorelDRAW and click OK in the file recovery dialog. Save and rename the recovered file, which carries a Graphics name with a number.
- Open Tools, then Options, then Workspace, then Save to see your auto backup interval and backup folder.
- Copy the CDR file to another folder or drive and open the copy. If the copy opens, the first file is the damaged one.
